The complete OPC curriculum.

Each module builds on the last. The Associate curriculum covers the foundational six modules. OPC Certified adds three advanced modules covering structural dynamics, change initiative practice, and what organizational health actually looks like.

01
The OPC Role and Operating Principles
Associate
6 sections 6–8 study hours 90 questions
+

Establishes the foundational identity of the OPC practitioner — what the role is, what it is not, and the operating principles that govern effective practice. Introduces the three universal failure patterns and establishes Seek to Understand as the discipline that makes all OPC practice possible.

Sections
🔒 What OPC Is and Is Not
🔒 The Three Universal Failure Patterns
🔒 Seek to Understand: The Foundational Principle
🔒 The Tuckman Model as an OPC Diagnostic Tool
🔒 The Shared Vision: Everyone Must See the Mountain
🔒 OPC Ethics and Boundaries
By the end of this module you will be able to
Define the OPC role and distinguish it precisely from adjacent professional roles
Name, describe, and identify all three universal failure patterns in a real scenario
Apply the Seek to Understand principle as a first response to observed organizational dysfunction
Diagnose Tuckman stage from observable behavioral evidence rather than general description
02
Reading Stakeholder Dynamics
Associate
6 sections 5–7 study hours 90 questions
+

The most important skill in day-to-day OPC practice — reading what stakeholders are actually communicating as distinct from what they are saying. Covers the five common stakeholder behavior types, the anatomy of Phantom Commitment, stakeholder mapping, and the discipline of the OPC question.

Sections
🔒 Position vs. Concern: The Foundational Distinction
🔒 The Five Stakeholder Behavior Types
🔒 Phantom Commitment: Early Warning and Response
🔒 Stakeholder Mapping: The OPC Approach
🔒 The Art of the OPC Question
🔒 When Stakeholder Dynamics Exceed OPC Scope
By the end of this module you will be able to
Distinguish between a stakeholder’s stated position and their actual concern
Recognize all five stakeholder behavior types and respond to each appropriately
Identify Phantom Commitment at Stage 1 or 2 — before the project depends on it
Formulate OPC questions that open rather than close organizational conversations
03
Team Dynamics and the Tuckman Model in Practice
Associate
6 sections 5–7 study hours 90 questions
+

Shifts the lens from individual stakeholders to the team as a unit. The Tuckman model is applied as a precision diagnostic tool — reading where a specific team actually is right now based on what they are doing, not what they say they are doing. Covers all five stages, regression triggers, the three kinds of conflict, and Subterranean Conflict in depth.

Sections
🔒 The Tuckman Model: A Precision Diagnostic
🔒 Diagnosing Team Stage from Observable Evidence
🔒 The Three Kinds of Conflict
🔒 Creating Conditions for Healthy Storming
🔒 The Shared Vision in Team Practice
🔒 Subterranean Conflict: Recognition and Response
By the end of this module you will be able to
Diagnose Tuckman stage from specific behavioral evidence — not general descriptions
Distinguish suppressed, productive, and destructive conflict and respond to each appropriately
Create conditions for healthy Storming in a team culture that is actively suppressing it
Surface Subterranean Conflict through theme rather than attribution
04
Speaking Truth in Organizational Environments
Associate
6 sections 5–7 study hours 90 questions
+

Addresses Positional Compliance — the behavior of executing a decision you know is wrong because speaking up feels more dangerous than staying silent. Covers the Crucial Accountability framework in full, the construction of truth-telling conversations, the discipline of observable language, and when accountability conversations are not the right tool.

Sections
🔒 Positional Compliance: The Full Cost
🔒 The Crucial Accountability Framework
🔒 Constructing the Truth-Telling Conversation
🔒 Positional Compliance: OPC Responses
🔒 Facts vs. Narratives: Observable Language
🔒 When Accountability Conversations Are Not Appropriate
By the end of this module you will be able to
Apply the full six-step Crucial Accountability framework to a real organizational scenario
Construct a truth-telling conversation that addresses a specific gap without becoming political
Distinguish facts from narratives and communicate exclusively in observable verifiable terms
Recognize Positional Compliance in yourself and apply the same standard you apply to others
05
The Vision and Deployment Conversation
Associate
6 sections 5–6 study hours 90 questions
+

Brings OPC competencies to bear on the two most practically important artifacts in internal organizational work — the shared vision conversation and the project status one-pager. Covers deploy-forward design, the mountain metaphor in operational depth, the OPC one-pager as a transparency tool, and what to do when the vision has moved without being acknowledged.

Sections
🔒 The Mountain Revisited: Vision in Depth
🔒 Deploy-Forward Design
🔒 The One-Pager: Structure and Purpose
🔒 Using the One-Pager as an OPC Tool
🔒 When the Mountain Moves
🔒 Connecting Vision to the PLC Charter
By the end of this module you will be able to
Facilitate a shared vision conversation that produces a genuine testable shared end state
Introduce deploy-forward design at initiation and maintain it through each phase gate
Construct an OPC one-pager that informs rather than reassures the sponsor
Name when the mountain has moved and facilitate the conversation that follows honestly
06
OPC Practice, Ethics, and the Board Assessment
Associate
6 sections 4–5 study hours 90 questions
+

The final Associate module addresses the ethics that govern OPC practice, the structure and expectations of the certification process, and what it means to maintain and develop an OPC practice over time. This is the module about what it means to actually practice — the responsibilities the credential carries.

Sections
🔒 The Ethics of OPC Practice
🔒 Common Ethical Dilemmas in OPC Practice
🔒 The Certification Structure
🔒 The Board Assessment
🔒 Board Assessment Preparation
🔒 Maintaining and Building an OPC Practice
By the end of this module you will be able to
Articulate the seven core ethics principles and navigate the tensions between them
Understand the structure, expectations, and assessment criteria of the OPC certification process
Describe the pathway between Associate and Certified and ongoing development requirements
Apply the ethics framework to ambiguous real-world OPC practice scenarios
OPC Certified — Advanced Modules
07
Structure as Information
Certified
6 sections 5–7 study hours 90 questions
+

Teaches practitioners to read organizational design as OPC data. Every structural choice — reporting lines, approval chains, management layers, decision rights — encodes assumptions about power, trust, and what the organization actually values. The practitioner who can read structure is operating at a fundamentally more advanced level.

Sections
🔒 What Structure Is Actually Telling You
🔒 Span of Control, Dotted Lines, and Top-Heavy Signals
🔒 Depth and Distance from the Top
🔒 Decision Rights and Approval Chains
🔒 Reading Healthy Structure — What Good Looks Like
🔒 Structure as an OPC Diagnostic
By the end of this module you will be able to
Read an org chart as organizational data — generating hypotheses rather than conclusions
Identify structural warning signs: span, depth, dotted lines, and approval chain problems
Connect structural signals to the three failure patterns they make more likely
Conduct a structural diagnostic and use it to focus observation in an engagement
08
The Change Curve
Certified
6 sections 5–7 study hours 90 questions
+

Applies the full OPC framework to change initiatives — reading them as organizational dynamics systems rather than project management problems. Covers the five-phase Change Curve model, where all three failure patterns reliably appear in change initiatives, phase gate integrity, and why most deployment crises are created in the first phase.

Sections
🔒 The Change Curve as an Organizational Dynamics System
🔒 Define & Refine — Problem Agreement Is the Only Starting Point
🔒 Plan & Fan — Getting Genuine Agreement Before Work Starts
🔒 The Repository, the End Plan, and the Resources Nobody Counted
🔒 Phase Gates and the Pressure to Keep Moving
🔒 Where the Failure Patterns Live
By the end of this module you will be able to
Read a change initiative as an organizational dynamics system — not a project management problem
Identify where Phantom Commitment, Subterranean Conflict, and Positional Compliance appear in each phase
Recognize when a phase gate is functioning as genuine assessment versus organizational ritual
Trace a deployment crisis back to its origin in Define & Refine
09
What This Looks Like When It Works
Certified
6 sections 4–6 study hours 90 questions
+

The capstone module. OPC practice is not dysfunction detection — it is the practice of creating conditions under which organizations can be honest with themselves. This module describes what that destination looks like across all domains: healthy stakeholder dynamics, teams in genuine Performing, structure that serves the work, and change initiatives where the dynamics are right. Closes with the OPC Practitioner’s Pledge.

Sections
🔒 What It Looks Like When an Organization Can Tell Itself the Truth
🔒 What Healthy Stakeholder Dynamics Actually Look Like
🔒 What a Team in Genuine Health Looks Like
🔒 What Structure Looks Like When It Serves the Work
🔒 What a Change Initiative Looks Like When the Dynamics Are Right
🔒 The OPC Practitioner’s Pledge and Standard
By the end of this module you will be able to
Recognize genuine organizational health as clearly as you recognize dysfunction
Describe the positive state corresponding to the absence of each failure pattern
Articulate the ten commitments of the OPC Practitioner’s Pledge and what each means in practice
Hold the destination — what you are working toward — as clearly as the diagnostic lens
